THE SANTA MONICA CHORUS
Starting Feb. 10, 2015, we are rehearsing at Culver City Presbyterian Church, 7:30pm.
11269 West Washington Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90230
The Santa Monica Chorus is an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the oldest chapter west of the Rockies. We are an extraordinary group of women who gather together in celebration of the art form known as Barbershop, a uniquely American folk art with its traditional close, 4-part harmonies, ringing chords a cappella.
1st Place Chorus - 2014 Sweet Adelines Region 11
We compete annually in the Regional 11 Sweet Adelines contest. In March 2014, we earned 1st place overall, as well as 1st place in the Mid-Sized Chorus Division! In 2011 we won 1st Place Overall in our competition, as well as 1st Place in the Mid-Sized Chorus Division. Our director, Laura Pallas, won Director of the Year for Region 11 that year. Winning the 2014 Regional Competition qualifies us to Represent Region 11 at the International Chorus Competition to be held in Las Vegas in October 2015.
At the Region 11 competetion in March 2013, our very own Sirens quartet won first place. As Quartet Champs, they represented Santa Monica Chorus and Region 11 in the Sweet Adelines International Competition in Hawaii this year. Debra, Timari, Lisa, and Melissa competed against the best quartets in the world. We're so proud of them!

Our craft is about performance. While singing skills are most important in achieving a good performance, there is always an emphasis on showmanship as our sparkling faces and choreography will turn up the level of any song to delight our audiences. Besides our yearly competitions, we can also be heard throughout the year singing for civic and charitable organizations, private groups, fundraisers and community events.
Our Director of over 25 years, Laura Pallas, is an accomplished musician and performer who specializes in vocal production and technique. She holds an M.F.A. in Vocal Pedagogy and was awarded the level of “Master Director” by the Sweet Adelines International organization when our chorus had attained a certain level of achievement by scoring over 600 points in contest. She serves on the Regional and International Music Faculty and coaches choruses and quartets around the world. She has led Santa Monica Chorus to many impressive Awards and even led us in two International competitions in the small and mid-size chorus division where we competed in San Antonio with choruses from around the country and even around the world. Laura was awarded Director of the Year for Region 11 when we attained our big First Place win for the first time since 1969 .
