I have been a member of the Santa Monica Chorus for about 7 years. This chorus is so passionate about singing and performing it allows me to do what I love to do.  When visitors come to a rehearsal we sing even better because we have an audience. The 'sisterhood" and life long friendships will keep me singing with this chorus for a very long time.

You guys were amazing! You had me crying and laughing. By far the most entertaining peformance - and you look beautiful!

Once I attended the first practice session, I was hooked. I knew this was the group for me.

Laura is the reason I sing in this chorus. She is a vocal master who has the amazing ability to impart her wisdom and skill to all of us in the most positive way - with humor and inspiring encouragement. Each rehearsal is a 3 hour voice lesson. I have learned SO much not only about vocal technique, but also about performing on stage. Laura is a true musician. She feels the music in a way that most people simply cannot. Then she takes that feeling and shows us how to communicate it through our singing. She is a gift to all of us.

I've been a member for 15 years.  I love the singing/competing/performing (warning-- 4-part harmony can be addictive) but more than anything I think it's the great people in the organization and the good friends I've made over the years that keeps me going.

I joined the chorus in April 2008. I was looking for a place to sharpen my vocal skills and meet fabulous women. Well, I have certainly found both with the Santa Monica Chorus. I appreciate the expertise, enthusiasm, and the never ending smile of our choral director, Laura. I am truly blessed to be a part of this group of women.

I joined Sweet Adelines because my Mom and sister were a part of the organization. I was singing in a rock band and didn't see myself singing 4-part harmony in a large group of women...But when my Mom and sister formed a quartet that won their regional competition in 1993, hearing how fabulous they sounded, hooked me. I joined the quartet and fully threw myself into this music and art form. It is different than any other kind of musical experience. Singing 4-part harmony is a visceral experience. You can feel the music because of the physics of the sound involved in locking and ringing a 4-part chord. I feel transformed by this music. And to top this off, the act of singing with the women in our chorus amplifies this effect from a lot of different angles. My fellow chorus members and our director, Laura, create an atmosphere of team work and shared passions that makes the experience so very rewarding. We are very lucky to have found this music and this chorus.

I was so impressed with how the group worked together to make the music the best it could be. And friendly! A wonderful welcome and more fun then I can describe. I am so happy I found this group.

I've been a member of the Santa Monica Chorus for 15 years!  (Time flies when you're having fun.) Because of our incredibly talented director, Laura Pallas, my vocal skills and musical ear improve at every weekly rehearsal. I also see my wonderful chorus friends, and what's more, I feel great because I'm doing something I love, just for me!

Singing lightens my heart and brings me joy.  Then, I spread that joy to everyone I know. Singing with others is great community service.  We lift each other's spirits, have great fun, and create beautiful music. I love our director,  she's an amazing human being.   Compassionate, funny, patient, and very skilled.   She will bring out the best in you!

After meeting the chorus, listening to their beautiful music and seeing how much fun they had, I knew I wanted to be a part of that. Singing with these ladies has been a blast so far, but the real gift from them has been seeing women of all ages living life to its fullest. I am very glad I joined.

I have been a member of Santa Monica Sweet Adelines for most of my 49 years in Sweet Adelines International.   It has been the biggest part of my life, giving me precious long time friends as well as the newer, delightful younger friends in today's chorus.   As the chorus has progressed under the skilled hands of Laura Pallas, my heart swells with pride.   I hope to be able to be part of this wonderful group for many more years to come.

I joined Sweet Adelines when I was in my mid-20's and now have been a member for 22 years!  I had been a choir singer, pianist, and dancer my entire life and it was so great to find a place where I could still sing and dance, while living my "grown-up" life.  In addition to the musical fulfillment I enjoyed, I was surprised by the friendships I developed with women of all ages.  Being a part of Sweet Adelines removed any fear I may have had about aging.  I enjoy deep and lasting friendships with women 20 years younger and 30 years older than I.  We have weekend away with just the girls that are so fun!  Where else can you have slumber parties as an adult?  Sweet Adelines has taught me more about leadership than I have learned from my job as a Human Resources Manager.  Being a part of the management and musical leadership of the chorus has taught me much about working in groups, managing projects, and having fun along the way.  Our families get to know each other, and look forward to chorus events.  My life, and that of my family, is so much richer because of Sweet Adelines.

I grew up singing 4 part female/male harmony.  Not only in the church choir, but my own large family had a singing group, and we performed pretty regularly - think 'small time' Osmonds.  In late 2000, I went to a Santa Monica Sweet Adelines concert at the request of my sister.  It took only 3 notes, and I was hooked - I had to sing with this group!  A few months later my sister and I auditioned, and joined the Santa Monica Sweet Adelines.  And here's the kicker:  I learned more about singing in my first year with Sweet Adelines than I had in the first 45 years of my life.  And I'm still learning and growing.  Laura is truly fantastic, the organization is amazingly supportive, and being active in it makes women younger - honestly!   Yes, you have to put on false eyelashes every once in a while - get over it (and embrace it)!  Oh, and guess what else;  I don't read music.

I joined this chorus five years ago, at the age of 22. When I came I instantly knew I wanted to join, but I never knew how much more I would get out of it besides all the great singing! This really has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life - the gift that keeps on giving every week. Not only do I have the opportunity to work with a wonderful vocal instructor and director on a weekly basis, I also have been blessed with friends and mentors, and now my six year-old walks around the house singing our songs. I am a better singer, mother, friend and leader for it all!
